Context Labs to Establish Abu Dhabi Regional HQ After Strategic Investment From 22/x
Context Labs has received a strategic investment from Abu Dhabi platform 22/x and will establish its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The deal backs the rollout of its AI data infrastructure across the Gulf and wider MENA region.
Context Labs has received a strategic investment from 22/x and will establish its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The agreement, announced on 2 November 2026, also sets up a long-term partnership to expand the company’s AI data infrastructure across the Middle East and North Africa.
The size of the investment was not disclosed. Context Labs already lists Abu Dhabi among its offices, alongside Amsterdam, Cambridge in Massachusetts and Houston, so this deal formalises the city as its regional base rather than marking a first arrival.
What the agreement covers
- A strategic equity investment by 22/x in Context Labs.
- A regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi serving customers and partners across the GCC and wider MENA region.
- Regional deployment of Context Labs AI Data Infrastructure, including the AI Distillery for sovereign AI.
- Industry applications for energy, utilities and critical infrastructure.
- Joint work to deploy the platform into existing assets and ecosystems across the region.
Why verified data is the pitch
Context Labs describes its platform as the trusted data layer that enterprise AI depends on. It ingests fragmented operational, engineering and enterprise data, verifies it cryptographically at its source and keeps a tamper-proof record of where every figure came from, so each AI model, agent and decision can be traced back to verified data.
Industry-specific ontologies give that data context in the language of each sector, from energy and chemicals to logistics, utilities, pharmaceuticals and financial services. The AI Distillery extends the same infrastructure into the enterprise, letting organisations run frontier and open-weight AI models inside their own data centres, on their own verified data.
“AI is only as good as the data underneath it, and enterprises have to be able to verify that data before AI can be trusted to act on it,”
Dan Harple, Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Context Labs, said the company’s ontologies let it move with the region’s national champions across every sector they lead.
“Our partnership with Context Labs brings an essential foundation to that ambition: trusted data that enables businesses to apply AI with confidence while retaining control over their information.”
Mohammed Yousif Al Nowais, Director and Board Member of 22/x, said the partnership must also create opportunities for Emiratis to develop specialist skills and lead the industries of the future.
An Abu Dhabi base for a Gulf and MENA rollout
22/x will work with Context Labs to scale the infrastructure and its applications across the region. The partnership draws on 22/x’s experience in incubating deep-tech and applied AI for critical infrastructure, and on its relationships with sovereign-aligned compute, data and distribution partners in the region.
The timing lines up with ADIPEC 2026, which runs in Abu Dhabi from 2 to 5 November. Context Labs launched the AI Distillery on 1 November and is demonstrating it at the show on energy-sector use cases, with the platform available through the Microsoft Marketplace.
An investment without a number, and why that matters
The missing figure is the honest limit of this announcement. Without an amount, a valuation or a closing timeline, the deal cannot yet be sized against other regional AI investments, and its weight will only become clear when customer deployments and hiring in Abu Dhabi follow.
What is concrete is the structure. A regional headquarters, a long-term agreement and a product launched the day before the announcement point to a deployment plan rather than a passive stake, and the energy, utilities and critical infrastructure focus gives that plan a clear first market.
Context Labs was formed out of MIT research. 22/x is an Abu Dhabi-based platform founded by the Al Nowais family, working across advisory, infrastructure, investment and incubation to help global technology businesses establish and scale in the Middle East.
