Aramco Closes SR 9.9 Billion Deal for 49% of HUMAIN as PIF Keeps Control

Aramco has closed a deal for a 49% stake in HUMAIN, contributing about SAR 9.9 billion in cash in 2026 plus AI, compute and digital assets, while PIF retains 51%. HUMAIN plans 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Aramco have closed a transaction in which Aramco acquires a 49% stake in HUMAIN, with PIF retaining 51% ownership. Aramco takes the stake through a wholly owned subsidiary, in a deal announced on 1 November 2026.

Aramco is contributing approximately SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in cash to HUMAIN in 2026, in addition to AI, compute and digital assets. PIF and Aramco are also contributing AI assets, capabilities and talent as HUMAIN’s shareholders.

The deal at a glance

Item Detail
Aramco stake 49%, through a wholly owned subsidiary
PIF stake 51%, retained
Aramco cash contribution Approximately SAR 9.9 billion ($2.6 billion) in 2026
Other contribution AI, compute and digital assets, plus capabilities and talent
Announced 1 November 2026, as a closed transaction

The distinction in that table matters. The SAR 9.9 billion is a cash contribution to HUMAIN in 2026, alongside transferred assets, and the announcement does not put a separate value on those assets.

That means the cash figure alone does not establish a total price for the stake or a valuation for HUMAIN.

Bringing PIF and Aramco’s AI portfolio of investments together under HUMAIN creates a powerful synergy that fuels talent growth, technological advancement, and intellectual property creation.

What HUMAIN is building

HUMAIN, launched in May 2025, is building full-stack AI capabilities across four areas: next-generation data centers, hyper-performance infrastructure and cloud platforms, advanced AI models, and transformative AI solutions. Its models include ALLaM, described in the announcement as one of the world’s most powerful multimodal Arabic large language models.

HUMAIN is scaling to meet regional and global demand for AI compute, with a planned deployment of 3 gigawatts of AI data center capacity by 2030. The stated aim is to become one of the leading exporters of AI globally, delivering solutions that help the public and private sectors deploy AI at scale.

The HUMAIN deal is very important to Aramco, building on the company’s long track record of innovation and technology.

Why Aramco wants an AI company

For Aramco, this is not a side bet on technology. The company says it expects to leverage HUMAIN’s AI infrastructure to translate advanced AI capabilities into industrial applications, and to benefit as a shareholder and strategic partner from HUMAIN’s infrastructure and services.

Aramco also frames the deal as a way to monetize AI and digital assets it already owns, with opportunities for revenue growth and attractive margins. Since 2023, Aramco says it has achieved $11.3 billion in Technology Realized Value, with a significant portion coming from AI solutions.

For PIF, the partnership aligns with its 2026-2030 strategy of deepening integration across economic ecosystems, expanding opportunities with the private sector, and growing national companies into globally competitive leaders. The test for both shareholders will be whether HUMAIN’s 3 gigawatt target by 2030 turns into operating capacity and customers, rather than remaining an announcement figure.
