Apple Announces October 28 ‘Pro and Tell’ Event

Apple has announced an October 28 'Pro and Tell' event in Los Angeles, where the first touchscreen MacBook Pro, new M6 Macs and a redesigned OLED iPad mini are expected to launch.

Apple has announced a special event for Wednesday, October 28, its second product showcase this month. The event, titled “Pro and tell”, begins at 10 a.m. Pacific Time (9 p.m. in Dubai) in Los Angeles, where Apple has invited select media for a hands-on product launch experience.

“Can’t wait to pro and tell next week,” Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, wrote on X, sharing the event artwork.

Apple has not confirmed what it will unveil. Based on reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, three product lines are expected to headline the show: a first touchscreen MacBook Pro, new Macs powered by the M6 chip, and a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display.

The first touchscreen MacBook Pro

The headline act is expected to be a redesigned MacBook Pro with a touchscreen, a first for Apple’s laptops. The new 14-inch and 16-inch models are tipped to switch from mini-LED to OLED displays, replace the notch with a Dynamic Island-style cutout, and run on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. They are also expected to be significantly lighter than the current models.

A touchscreen Mac would mark a major shift for Apple, which has kept touch interaction exclusive to the iPhone and iPad for years and argued that laptops work best with a keyboard and trackpad. Adding touch to the MacBook Pro, with macOS support built in, would close one of the longest-running gaps between Apple’s computers and Windows rivals, many of which have shipped touch laptops for a decade.

New M6 Macs

Alongside the flagship redesign, Apple is expected to introduce an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and a refreshed iMac, both powered by the new M6 chip. Unlike the touchscreen models, these machines are expected to keep their current designs, with the upgrade focused on performance from the new silicon.

An OLED iPad mini

The iPad mini is tipped for one of its biggest updates in years. The new model is expected to gain an OLED screen, a revamped speaker system, and a relocated FaceTime camera. Together with the Mac announcements, it would complete a full refresh of Apple’s pro and portable lineups heading into the holiday season.

Apple’s second event of October

The October 28 event follows Apple’s “Welcome home” launch on October 13 in New York City, where the company introduced the HomeView smart display, the second-generation HomePod mini, and a new Apple TV 4K. The new products from the October 28 event are expected to reach Apple stores on November 6.

Apple is known for keeping final product details under wraps until the keynote, so the touchscreen MacBook Pro, the M6 Macs and the OLED iPad mini remain expectations rather than certainties until the event begins.
